The festival is the largest multi cultural festival in Scandinavia.
2001 was the 37th festival and was (as always) opened by
Queen Margrethe II

The official very comprehensive program includes performances, exhibitions and other events of international, national and local artists. The last 20 years the Festival has been dedicated a theme which for 2001 was Global-Local.
The theme for 2002 will be The Portuguese Speaking World

Boblen · The Bubble has been a part of the Festival as long as I can remember. This is the place if you like traditional Jazz (and beer). The band you can see in the panorama is the very popular Østjydsk Musikforsyning together with guest artist Jesper Thilo

During the festival street performers from all the world come to Aarhus.

There are many ways to enjoy the Festival. This young people placed a sofa in the middle of one of the main places and watched the view of the street performances.

In the Concert Hall many national and international performances take place and you can also enjoy free performances like this theatre group. The exhibition on the walls is the posters by the famous Danish artist Per Arnoldi.

The last night of the festival the large square in front of the Cathedral was transformed into a free air Disco. 4 DJ´s from Japan, Brazil, Denmark and South Africa performed the music.
